Istanbul Turkey, Where East meets West.

First time traveling to Istanbul Turkey, I did realise it is gonna fantastic since I would be stepping my feet both in Europe and Asia lands. This was amazing when the Turkish Airlines landed in Ataturk International Airport in the dawn after flying from Jakarta stopover in Singapore. I could not be more honest to say that Istanbul city is very amazing and astonishing. That was the first impression coming across my mind when the bus picked us up to the hotel in the Old City of Istanbul.

We were of the tour group from the travel agency in Jakarta offering the special package tour combining Istanbul and Casablanca in Marroco, but here I will share the Istanbul experience first then in the other article I will share about Casablanca. As you may know that Istanbul is the biggest and busiest city in Turkey. It is not the capital city of Turkey, the capital is Ankara in the Asian side but the business life is in Istanbul.

Walking down to the main attraction in Istanbul is the place called: Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia and Topkapi Palace in one area. In these places you may spend a whole day to export the ancient artefacts and the history of the Ottoman Empire.

Blue Mosque is very well known as Sultan Ahmed II Mosque is now still in service as Mosque while Aya Sophia was originally a church turning into Mosque during Ottoman Empire and now serves as a museum.

Topkapi Palace is a huge place, a place for Sultan with thousand people serving him. It is now also a museum. The kitchen is very huge serving 15.000 people in one time meal. Can you imagine how big are the kitchens. Inside we can see the place of Sultan, the Museum of many things from Ottoman Empire.

At the backyard of the palace lies a place where we can look far to the Bosphorus Strait which in very beautiful.

Istanbul, Turkey is a must-visit place for you and your family.

1 Day traveling in 4 Countries

Breakfast di Cambodia, Tea Time in Vietnam, Lunch in Singapore and Dinner in Jakarta: One Day Four Countries.

Very early morning in 2002, an office duty should be accomplished. Wake up in the country of nowhere, just like Indonesia in early 1960, I was in Pnom Penh, capitol city of Cambodia for a meeting the day before. A Toyota Camry is our taxi waiting for me to bring me across the border of Cambodia to Vietnam. four hours drive with a traditional farming landscape of Cambodian simple houses gave me sense of dejavu of Indonesia in 1960.

Moc Bai is the border town of Vietnam and Cambodia was just arrived then, an inspection by the military officers seemed run smooth and we were ready to catch the flight in Ho Chi Minh at 13 am.

Another 3 hour drive by a Vietnam taxi using kind of Toyota Kijang car. The driver was a lady but did not seem a lady since she had a big body and voice. The taxi took us to Central Hotel where we stayed during in Vietnam to check out. At 11:30 we a rrived at Ho Chi Mind, rushed to check out and got the taxi to airport.

We arrived in Ho Chi Minh airport at 12 noon, check in and ready to fly to Singapore, then Jakarta. A four hour flight we had from Ho Chi Minh to Singapore and another 1,5 hours from Singapore to Jakarta.

We just stopped over in Singapore for 3 hours and ready to fly again to Jakarta. Evening we reached Jakarta.

So, in one day, I got breakfast in Cambodia, tea time in Vietnam, late lunch in Singapore and dinner in Jakarta. What a wonderful journey? How about you?

One night in Green Belt, Makati City, The Philippines

The night was still young when we arrived at the old airport of Manila. The duty from the office was to continue making the campaign of Indonesian Brand, Extra Joss after launched last year. After landing, the car picked up and headed for Dampa, a place we can select our own sea food from the fishermen and asked the chef to cook.

After Dampa, we headed for the most happening place in Makaty City, Manila. Its called Green Belt, a mall complex where all people took their times relax, sometimes met the colleagues and business partners. In this place we met the Indonesian Country Director of Kalbe Farma placed in Manila for the last 3 years.

Green Belt indeed is a nice place to meet and enjoy the ambience of Manila. Its been a bustle place where you can find anything what you need. People from around the world usually take Green Belt a meeting and relaxing place, while enjoying the night life and great food.

There is a unique restaurant when we came for dinner in Green Belt. The restaurant name id Little Buddha with a spice food and very delicious ones. What makes it unique is the restaurant serve not with the dish but using the banana leave. It can be very cheap to find banana leave in the village but in the big city like Manila, the banana leave is so hard to find. The aroma of banana leave as a dish is very attractive, something natural that make us want to get more more food to our tummies.

Indeed Green Belt is a very attractive place to see in Manila.
